Not for the faint of heart.

Oh Karma! Did you have the baby yet? Here is a little motherhood story for you...

Until last night, I have never had to deal with this one:

So, my 2 1/2yr old calls to me in the middle of the night...about 2:30 a.m.
"Mommy help me"
So I drag myself out of bed into his room...oh man...I think he has vomited all over his bed.
I bring him in the bathroom and try to clean him up...Realizing that it is not vomit at all...it came from the other end!
Ahhhhhhhh gross! All over his bed, pillow case, me, him...OMG.
God Bless Mothers everywhere.

Needless to say, I didn't get much sleep last night (with the worrying, the cleaning, the laundry, showering, waiting for it to happen again)...so it will be a lazy day of knitting.

Yesterday I was drugged up with migraine meds and spent the day on the lounger outside knitting this...

You remember this little guy...his birthday is a week away.
I decided to knit trellis after seeing it on Karma's blog. I am using the Rowan all season cotton that I picked up at the yarn sale the other day.(which is pretty much exactly like the handwork cora that I have in the stash, oh well...I know of a couple more babies on the way I could knit for.)

I will make atleast one front today...and of course go to the last day of the yarn sale!

Oh dear, what a mess. Sounds like a 'motherhood moment' to remember for all time.
Your story reminded me a situation I found myself in with my son when he was about the same age. I had put him down for a nap and heard him chatting to himself during the whole nap time so I knew he didn't sleep but I still was totally flabergasted when I walked into his room after nap time. He had messed his pull-up and had proceeded to pull out 'matter' from his pull up and fingerpaint a large mural on one of his walls with it. It was everywhere ! I didn't know what to clean first. I still remember taking him by the hand, walking him to the bathroom and managing to utter: 'don't.... do ... this... every... again'. There was delays between every word as I tried to stay under control. To this day I don't know why he did that but thankfully he never did it again - he's 17 years old now.

Okay, I love when they come in to your room in the middle of the night and say, "Mom, I've got to....." and then barf all over your face/chest. It should be a crime to have to clean someone else's barf out of your nostrils, and out from under your breasts. No fair at all. If they have enough time to come into MY room and barf, why don't they have enough sense to go into THEIR bathroom and do it??????? Yes, just sit and knit. It's that kind of a recovery.... Oh, and we called OUR fingerpainter "Poo-caso...."

Oh I have wanted to make that sweater ever since I saw that Knitty! But I have no child to make it for!
Yours looks so great! I love it.
Oh your poor little guy..I hope he is feeling better. :)

Oh I hope your little one is feeling better.

I have had to put a "tent" on the top of the cribs when they reached about 18 months because they climb out. Good thing that tent is washable is allI can say!

Hi there! Thanks so much for thinking of me while you clean up your dear little boy. :) No, no baby yet. Is it too late to turn back?

Isn't Trellis a great pattern? Your little friend will look fabulous in it. Mwah!

Could be food poisoning, better not be the flu. Get rid of that before you get in the RV with me and the other 6 of us for a week.

Hope the little guy is better! I had a similar situation to Sue, only it was with a niece. Love the term Poo-casso! You can laugh at these situations as you gain distance from them. At the time, you are convinced you are the only Mom in the world doing that in the middle of the night. Do you knit Continental? I love the little sweater, but both Bea and Cherry have taken my eye and I wonder where you got the kits. Hope you are still lounging on the chair and knitting!

I felt for you -- every mother has been through that. We had a 5 day version of it (astronomical water bill that month) with us finally resorting to wrapping the child in plastic bags in a futile attempt at containment! Hope you get some catch up sleep tonight.

Anyways, trellis is looking good!

Your Trellis sweater looks great. Good color choice. I am working on one, too, for my cousin's new baby. I only have one sleeve done so I am excited to see the back you have made and how nice it looks! I can't wait to see photos of the finishing! I am a bit nervous about doing it. :)

What's with kids and projectile body stuff coming out. I've unfortunately had my share of it too! Granted, I did manage to avoid the pooh fingerpaint though, thankgoodness for small miracles! :)

Oh it's an absolutely beautiful sweater.

About the motherhood story: I'll let the rest of you deal with it.

Eeeewww, I'm so sorry for your blech! They always say that it isn't so bad when it is your own kid, but a mother I work told me, after being vomited on by her daughter the night before, that it really is that bad.

But the sweater sure is pretty!

Hope your little one feels better soon. Trellis is one of my favorite baby knits-love the seed stitch & cables.

Isn't it amazing what you do as a Mom? It is truly an act of love to do it. As a kindergarten teacher, I threw up when I cleaned up some student's puke. Now my kid has a puking moment, and I put my hands out to catch it without thinking. Yucky.

Wow, three kids and I've yet to deal witht that one. My friend has a great story of her fever-deranged NAKED 8 year old running through the house streaming from that particular region of his body. He was out of it and didn't have a clue what he was doing. She was able to laugh about it, but it wasn't for awhile.

Your sweater is so amazing!!! Truly beautiful.
I also get migraines. They are a thief of time. My drugs work sometimes, but I'm really resenting that I'm missing out on my life!

Euw, that's one to bring up on the poor kid's 15th birthday! Glad you're managing to knit through it all.

Oh thank God I've never had to deal with poo on that scale. The occasional barf.

Kudos to you for knitting while under the influence. I've spent the past month with migraines, and am amazed at how we manage to knit during them. A very nice distraction from the pain, don't you think? :)

One of the little girls I used to look after used to get diarreha quite a bit and there was always a puddle on the floor right where she had gone. A couple of times it was so bad, I wound up plunking her in the bathtub, turning the shower head to "rain" and giving her an impromptu shower. She hated that, but I didn't own enough rolls of paper towel/boxes of baby wipes/wascloths to get her clean.
I hope that is a one and only time for you!

Trellis looks great. I love that pattern too! What size needle are you using for the All Seasons Cotton? I'm just starting a new project with that yarn. I can't believe how much you've gotten done on Bea. You'll be wearing it in no time!

Been there. Done that. But the fact that you had an universal motherhood experience doesn't make the sleep deprivation any better.

[after changing the sheets, cleaning up the child and throwing the soiled bedding and nightclothes in the washer]

"Feeling better?"

"Uh-huh"

"Let's try to get some sleep. Mommy will like lie down next to you."

"Mommy, I have to..." barfs all over self, mommy and the fresh sheets.

At times like this, I have to remember how much better off we are than the poor women around the world who have no access to clean water for their babies.

even more fun when two are sick at the same time. :) From BOTH ends.

The sweater is beautiful.
