All tuckered out...

Tucker the monkey I and II are complete!

Started: April 1, 2007
Finished: April 18, 2007
Yarn: 2 balls of magic buttons in brown and left over Rowan wool/cotton for face, hands and feet. Scraps of red tweed and blue tweed for vest and scarf.
Pattern: Tucker the Monkey from Tracy Chapman's Toys to Knit.
Adjustments: Where do I begin? There seem to be many errors in this book. It is a good thing that I have some knitting knowledge and basically use these patterns for templates! The yarn and needle size are off...and there are no gauges in the entire book. Does it matter how big your monkey is?
Anyway, I don't really like making all these little pieces when I can knit them in the round. So I made the head in the round as well as the body in the round. This helped tremendously when it came to seaming. I also used my knitting knowledge when it came to decreasing...not everything is done on the last stitch or is just a k2tog...use those skills people!
I decided to give them more of a pot belly...come on...look at those bellies!

They are soooo cute! My three year old keeps asking if one is his, so I guess I better whip up another. I do have a couple ball left...just enough for one more!

Check out these faces...not ones that only a mother could love...

They are so cute! It's too bad there are so many errors (or just plain omissions) in the patterns. I would love to knit some of those myself.

Let me tell you, I have 3 legs and half a body of a knitted zebra stuffed in a bin somewhere. Knitted toys will make you crazy. I am so impressed with your monkeys! Love their bellies. They look as though they are relaxing at the pub before heading home woozily.

They are just so cute, no wonder your 3 yr old wants one too. Thanks for the heads up about all the pattern errors too, I have the book so when I knit one I will remember what you mentioned.

They are adorable! I want one. I want to make one. Last year I vowed no more knitted Christmas gifts, but I may have to find this book and knit a couple for my niece and nephew.

adorable and cute seem to be the popular words here, and they were exactly what I was going to say! They look extremely huggable!

I made the same changes when I made a monkey from a pattern in a UK knitting mag last year. For the life of me, I can't figure out why the designer would have you knit every piece flat. Ugh! Your pot-belly addition was truly inspired. They're adorable :-)

Just caught up with your finished guys, and they do look great. I also have made some of the toys from that book, and there are plenty of errors. I had to rewrite the pattern for the elephant almost from scratch. Clever to do the pieces in the round and add pot-bellies.

I'm in the middle of making Tucker and am pulling my hair out! My daughter wants me to make the elephant but Wendym says the pattern has so many errors, any clues???

Cute!!

Too bad the patterns are so hard to follow.

Those are two very adorable monkeys. The yarn you used for their bodies is so unexpected--it makes them look that much more charming and unique!
I admire your ability to get around pattern mistakes!
