Pattern: One Skein Scarf from the Happy Hooker
Yarn: Patons Classic Wool
Adjustments...none really. I used the same size hook to cast on and crochet the project...yeah that was a mistake. They tell you to cast on with a larger hook for a reason people! That edge is a little tighter...but it looks fine.
I actually like the scarf...it is "pretty"...I like the colour much better than the black one I had started. (the yarn is better than the black one that contained acrylic). It's really long so you can wrap it around a couple times...or not.
I am by no means becoming a crocheter...but I like learning something new, and expanding my skills. Now maybe I won't avoid any knitting projects that need a little crochet!

Crochet IS more knotty than knitting, but don't think of it as any more of a grandma craft than knitting. Maybe it's all in who exposes you to what -- I learned how to crochet when I was 8 and my chain-smoking, gamblign babysitter taught me. *grin*
Crochet is FAST and I think it makes for awesome afghans and fantastic stuffed animals. I'd MUCH rather freeform crochet a three-dimensional object. *nod*

It's beautiful! like all the things you do. I prefer knitting too, but now that you tried, consider it when you have to do a super fast gift, for example.

I've had crocheters tell me that a good reason to learn to crochet is how quickly you can crank out an FO. Now that I've seen your scarf that only took an hour, I'm convinced!
Very nice -- that was my first crochet project too. I love the book! I love the speed of crochet. I do think using "nice" yarn makes a big difference in appreciating crochet. Nothing is nice in Caron acrylic whatever scratchy stuff.
I recently took a "Crochet for Knitters" class from my LYS, and it was just enough crochet-info to enhance my knitting. Now I wish I learned a little more to be able to make a lovely scarf like the one you made!
great scarf! i feel the same way with the whole crochet vs. knitting. i actually learned to crochet when i was young and just picked up knitting 3 yrs ago... i LOVE knitting now and my mom who was Die Hard Crochet woman is coming over to the knit side :-) I might have to get that book for nothing other than the great Title.w

I used to crochet a lot - mostly on afghans. You can make a big blanket relatively quick with crochet.
