What are we in a race? No, quick knits people. Fat yarn, fat needles...fat sweater. Let me just say that it looks better in the photos...
The Ballet Wrap
Started: January 2, 2006
Finished: January 10, 2006
Yarn: 100% Alpaca that my SIL brought from Buenos Aries...sorry, not even a tag for you!
Pattern: Ballet Wrap on the cover of Interweave Knits current winter issue.
Adjustments: I made the arms about a inch longer. I also knit the ties as the pattern calls for...but I knew that I wasn't going to wrap it around my waist a thousand times...to thicken it up even more! The left front tie goes through the right hole above the ribbing, as the pattern says, but the right front simply ties to that on the side. I didn't loop it around etc etc.
I do like the sweater. I don't think I have ever worn such a thick knit. They just don't look as good as a thin knit for me. It's fun, and I will wear it...but I don't know if I could fit it under my winter jacket to go out in public;)
Here are a couple more shots...
Now, on to the problematic sweater lengthening...and finishing the purse. What's next for 2006?

It's really cute in the photos! I understand what you mean about thicker sweaters, though. The way the yarn knit in the book looks like plaid fabric!
It looks beautiful, not even bulky at all in those pictures. Love the Picovoli as well.
You are freaking AWESOME lady. Where do you find the time?
Both FO for 2006 are beautiful.
Wow! Both of those sweaters are so great! The fit is perfect. What a way to start the year!
I love it! And the colors are so great for you. Nice job.
Wow, that looks great! (the Picovoli from yesterday, too) I love how the yarn made diamonds on the back. Really pretty colors and fit.
Oooooh! The colours remind me of vanilla/black currant ice-cream! Yummy! Luvly!
I don't know what you're talking about. It looks FAB!
You look fabulous in it. I know what you mean about it looking better in the photos, but from the photos it sure does look good. I actually really like how the yarn pooled together in places.
It looks great on you, not bulky at all. But I can imagine it feels pretty bulky. I knit a bolero in bulky yarn last month and while it seems to look fine it just feels different. Stiffer, less flexible, it diesn't really drape as well as I'd like it to.
So fabulous! It doesn't look bulky in the slightest!
that's really beautiful - i love the way the yarn created hubs of color! it's very flattering on you!!!
I'm with the rest of them- beautiful, and I love the way it made the plaid design in back!
It looks great on you! I've been really into chunky knits this year, so I think it's fab.
Love your ballet wrap and Picovoli. I have been looking for a short wrap with short sleeves, any suggestions! I read your site each day and truly enjoy your writing.
Wow C, it really looks awesome on you. I see absolutely no bulk, just sexy hawt mama!
Grats! And damn you're fast! :P
Looks so good on you! I love the way the colors play in the back very pretty.
It´s really wonderful. I love the argyle-like pooling in the back!
I love the way the yarn made an argyle-like pattern on the back. Maybe this one will become your "wear around the house sweater". It looks good on you in the pictures though.
Absolutely gorgeous. Looks like something to wear in the 'transitional' seasons when a coat is too much but a light sweater isn't enough.
On a side note...those of us who wear sizes 14+ don't think it makes you look 'heavy'...nothing, short of gaining 40 pounds could make you look heavy! The sweater is extraordinary and it looks sleek on you...
Wow; you look fabulous! The ballet wrap is very flattering. And like everyone else here I love how the yarn went into an almost argyle type pattern on the back. Nice work!
I'm glad you mentioned about the cotton "growing". I've got a bunch of cotton I salvaged from a goodwill sweater I frogged and dyed, and haven't come up with a project for it yet. I'll certainly keep the growth factor in mind though!
You sweater turned out beautifully, looking very stylish indeed. Although it may feel bulky, it doesn't look bulky at all.
i too don't see where the bulkiness comes in. it looks gorgeous on you - color, fit and length!
I'm considering making this as my very first sweater. I think it looks great on you! I live in Central CA, so I won't have to wear it under a coat....sounds (and looks) good to me. Great job!
That does NOT look like a chunky knit at all. You look so svelte in that sweater! I think the pooling is incredile. Really pretty and intentional. I must give that pattern a second look. :)
Well, I had the IK next to the computer so I took another look at the cover. Your sweater is MUCH nicer looking. For some reason, the cover sweater makes the model look a bit large while yours does not. I think your colors are better, too. Lighter looking. Congratulations!! It's just beautiful and really looks wonderful on you. Don't hesitate to wear it.
