Shifting Sands

shifting sands, originally uploaded by cmeknit.

Yes, this project name is fitting for my life right now...but that is not the reason I am knitting it;)

I have loved the pattern since grumperina knit it for her father. Simple, yet beautiful. It is the perfect project to "start again" with.

I had used a smaller needle to start but the fabric was too tight. So I think I am using addi #6 (it would help if I could locate either of the two needle sizers that I own). I am using up the stash...some knitpicks merino style that I ordered last year for christmas knitting...which is just fine because they way that I am knitting now, this could very well turn out to be a christmas gift!

So here I am, a born-again-knitter. Back at it...I've knit an entire ball! Look out!
Have patience as I try to figure out how to blog again...I can't remember passwords and can't get on my photo site...so I am using flickr for now.

Thank you all for your thoughts and prayers...I've added a picture to the last post.

Welcome back, Carolyn! Shifting Sands is a good pattern for your re-introduction... easy does it :)

Grumperina is right! No real worry on gauge for this wonderful scarf. I have admired it before, but now I have put it in the to-do list.
At times of grieving, it is often a scattered mind that seems to stay with us far longer than we want it. I love your colour choice and before we know it, you will be turning out more complicated knits again!
I cannot help you with the things on the blog, as you did help me at first, but I know you will figure it out! Is it something like riding a bike - after a bit it all comes rushing back!
Take care.

It's nice to see you "pick up sticks" again.

What a lovely reintroduction to knitting! Take your time. We're not going anywhere. :)

I wish I had some encouraging words, but I can't begin to imagine what you're going through. Just don't forget that knitters care. If you need something, ask!

I agree that this pattern is a good one for re-entry. Satisfying to knit but tolerant of a scattered mind. I knit one from a beautiful Handmaiden semi-solid orange cashmere 4-ply for my husband at Christmas -- I suspect I got almost as much pleasure making it as he gets wearing it.

That's a lovely color of green. You may have just convinced me for sure that I want to knit that scarf for a Christmas gift this year. Slow and Steady....

The scarf is beautiful, and I'm so glad you're getting back into the knitting and blogging again.

I'm so sorry for your loss. A sister is such a gift and I know how hard it is to lose someone so close. You and your family have gone through so much. Welcome back.

I am so sorry for your lost, I know you lost a brother in the past and now your sister....you must be in a terrible pain and sorrow...

everyday I looked at your website and nothing was there, I consider to ask grumperina what was wrong but I thought that that was not something I could do...

now I read your story and I am so sorry for your lost, and for the lost of her boys and other family....you will be in my prairies and in my thought, caren from Holland

I'm so happy to see you coming back. Start back slowly, there is no reason to rush. I've been reading your blog forever it seems and this is only the second time I've commented. You were truly missed and prayed for. Welcome back!
