Careful tinkering...hooking...wrapping...yelling...cursing...praying...holding your breath...picking up the stitches, fixes it.
I must say, I am satisfied with the results. I tightened up stitches for a small length to make up for the slack in the yarn from k2tog. It's not perfect...but it is so close. Can you even tell where it is...I don't think so...I even had trouble...really. ( third diamond from the marker)
For those who suggested ripping in...normally I would rip and perfect it...but the thought of trying to get all those YO's in the pattern to line up...oh no. I just had to fix it...what was the harm in trying? I did it, and you can too...keep in mind a life line would have helped.
I'm not even in the thick of the lace yet!
That's ok, if I miss a YO or forget a K2tog...that's nothing a good blocking won't fix?!

WOW!!! I am so-o-o-o-o-o happy for you - you did an incredible job - NO ONE would ever notice it - and thanks for teaching me a valuable lesson! I was disheartened to hear about your start with this shawl (sounds exactly like me!) and my eagerness to knit this waned as I thought about how many stitches I, too, will be ripping out.
Now I will ripout only as a last resort! Unfortunately, this does not apply to the Aran baby blanket - I got brain freeze and actually made a very noticeable mistake - no getting around this one!

Congrats to you!!! I tried to pick up a dropped stitch from Lucky and that was a TOTAL nightmare, so I can relate a little. This is going to be gorgeous! You are definitely an inspiration to knitters everywhere!

holy cow you did it! and beautifully too i might end. i still couldn't tell where the fixed diamond was even after you pointed it out. oh and regarding stripes, i use circular needles and just slide the knitting to either end depending on the stripe sequence. so let's say you finished stripe A, but the yarn end of B is on the opposite side. Just slide your work and voila, you can start knitting with yarn B. Does that make sense?
What mistake? I can't see it. Great fix!
