Knitting with black yarn?!

Firstly, thank you all for your comments on the last few posts! I thought all my readers had left me!
So, I just wanted to interupt the barrage of FO's to show you a WIP.

I am not sure how I feel about knitting with black yarn...I think this is a first for me...well besides a tweed.
I feel blind.
Seriously.
When I finally get to knit at night, I have to literally sit under a lightbulb to knit this. I do like the yarn though. It is meilenwiet cotton from lana grossa. It is machine washable...which is a defintely plus for the recipient and who wouldn't love black socks! How practical.

The pattern I found on Ravelry. Mad colour weave socks.
I really like the pattern...it is interesting and knits up fairly quickly. I have already cast on for the second sock.
I wanted to make them a little longer than written, but wasn't sure if I would have enough yarn. I ended up doing a 7th repeat of the pattern before starting the heel. Also I knit up the 74 st size but ended up decrease down to the next smaller size. The recipient likes a looser leg, so it worked out.
Well, there is it.
A sock is on the needles...
and I am officially knitting for Christmas!

The sock looks like it will be fantastic! I'm knitting a sweater for hubby in black, luckily it's mostly stockinette because I agree, it's blind, I can't really see what I'm doing at night.

I've been looking around online for where I can by Lana Grossa yarn around here. Do you know a place? Or an online store (I'm in London,ON)? Or was this part of your stash...hmmm

Great socks! I felt the same way when I was knitting with a deep charcoal. I don't think I've ever knit with black. I'd need a otter light for sure.

Yea for the christmas knits!

Those look great. I've been reading, but too busy with my own pile of crap to comment. It's great to see you back blogging again! :)

I just started a black sock too.. its impossible to see what's going on, especially when a stitch drops. yours looks great so far!

Black yarn is tough. I had to frog a recent project for hubby and restart. I couldn't see the stitches and kept messing up the cables. This time around I will only knit under a bright light.

Black yarn has that effect. I am working with some particularly splitty black yarn. Under a lightbulb indeed!

Missed your posts. Glad you're back. I bought a floor lamp (like those expensive lights sold at craft stores. But this one was a fraction of the cost (from a store called Big Lots). I love this lamp! It's like knitting out in the sunlight.

I hear you! Black yarn, although perfectly neutral and wearable, is just downright tough to see.

OMG - black yarn. I am envious - but watch out for your eyes. It's really gorgeous, so it is definitely worth it. Good luck!
